MasterCard foundation scholarship program

The @MastercardFdn, via her Scholars Program, is working to develop Africa’s next generation of leaders. “This elite program allows students whose talent and promise exceed their financial resources to complete their education”. You can get it.

Eligibility

First, let us consider some eligibility information before we talk about the application process.

1. Age

- For BSc applications you must be 29 years old or under at the time you apply.

- For MSc applicants, you must be 35 years old or under at the time you apply.

2. You must be academically strong and have demonstrated a commitment to making a difference in the lives of others.

This must be clearly demonstrated in your essays and other documents. You need to tailor your application to reflect this.

3. University-Specific Application Process, Documentation and Fees/Deadlines

For this scholars program, you are applying through a University in the country you prefer. It is your responsibility to identify the eligibility criteria of each University and your proposed program.  A list of the participating universities can be found here: Apply to the Scholars Program

Since the Scholars Program is implemented through these universities and non-governmental organizations, decision-making are also managed individually by each partner. This also implies that partner institutions have their own deadlines and admission fees.

However, the good news is that for schools that require application fees as part of the admissions process, the fees WILL BE REIMBURSED if the student is eventually selected for the Scholars Program.

That is cool right? I think so too.

4. There are some academic documents and exams that may be required of you. They include:

- Acadmic Record (mainly transcripts, certificates)
- Admission Essays
- Standardized Tests (SAT, TOEFL or IELTS).
- Letters of Recommendation

Some university partners do not require the listed academic tests to be completed. This is why you need to carefully understand the information made available on your “choice university” website.

Also, it is your job to follow up with your referees about the online submission. In addition, please kindly note that some partners only accept online applications while some others require paper-based applications. You need to take note of the deadline and avoid waiting until the last day to submit your application.

Furthermore, please be aware that there is no limit to the number of schools you can apply to.

Asides the USA, Canada and other European schools, the MasterCard foundation partnered with Africa-based universities that offer BSc/MSc programs and do not require SAT or TOEFL scores.  In order to cover application costs, you can also take advantage of initiatives by @educationusa to foot those bills through the OFP program.

If you have any pressing questions about this initiative, please find the MasterCard foundation contact info below: Contact the MasterCard Foundation

Goodluck in your application!
